How to read the bar chart
This bar chart shows the current situation of your profit and loss and how it is affected when tax logic is applied to it.
It has two modes and it allows you to easily compare the two: The current situation and the simulated outcome. This way you can see the the outcome of a hypothetical sell scenario.
In this view, tax logic is applied only on the local level, meaning the exemption (1.000€ Freistellungsauftrag) is not applied.
German tax law separates different types of financial instruments by their type. Accumulation of gain in one instrument is taxed individually from the other instrument types. This is the local level.
Global calculations
Global Tax: This chart shows your total tax liability. Your profits are netted across pots, and your global tax liability (on all your securities) is affected by any changes made in these positions.
Exemption remain: Your exemption is split across the 4 loss pots - This bar chart shows how changes in the local PnL affect the global exemption, like the Global Tax bar.
Local calculations
(Local) Gross-Income: (AKA “Gross Income”, “Taxable Income”) ****This bar chart shows how much income you generated in the selected time frame within this pot. Income is calculated by subtracting your realized losses from your realized gains in this loss-pot.
Example: Pre-tax income = All your gains on stocks, minus all your losses on stocks
Note: Because tax exemption is applied on gains from all pots, what may appear as taxable income in this level, might be exempted on the global level, when the total exemption is applied. Your post-exemption bottom-line is found in the main dashboard.
(Local) Net-income: (AKA Pre-tax income) This bar shows the local net income generated in this pot (Gains - Losses) this is the net that is pushed to the global level.
Realized Gain: This bar shows the gross realized gain in the given time period.
Unrealized Loss: The unrealized loss is the potential off-set capacity in your depot. The graph shows how much capital is currently locked in these positions. These are your positions which are currently in loss since you bought them. The off-set potential represents not only the purchase price of a security, but also its position in the FIFO sell queue.
Realized Loss: This is the loss you made which is already locked in, in your Verlusttopf. Those are losses which account against your realized gains and are netted against them.
Einbehaltene Steuer: Tax deducted at the source - a fixed 26.375% deducted on any gain. Despite not knowing whether your broker has deducted this sum or not, this is according to the German tax law what SHOULD be deducted on each gain. Foretax “shadow tracks” this to provide some kind of a way to better estimate the user’s actual situation vs. the expected situation. As the source deduction is like a down-payment, tracking it allows easier reconciliation at the end of the year.
